Six out of 76 – gute ausichten 2024/2025: „Back“ Is Definitely „Out“
In the twenty-first year of our existence, a nine-member jury selected six award winners from a total of seventy-six valid submissions with their extensive works for gute aussichten – new german photography 2024/2025, whose messages together provide the orchestration for a polyphonic chorus on current and perennial truths: the challenges of a multiethnic society, the psychosocial implications of so-called socialmedia, being “at home” in multiple cultures, the concept of memory for those who have no pictures from the past, artistic authorship in times of generative image systems, and the role of women in traditional Tyrolean marksmen clubs.
These familiar subjects have already been explored in previous editions of gute aussichten, proving that highly charged social phenomena and malaise cannot simply be done away with by proclaiming sudden “turnarounds.” There is no going back, nor was it ever a serious option. Evolution of the species never works backward, which is a clear signal for people, societies, and nations that they must look for sustainable solutions.
“Back” is definitely “out,” even if for quite some time there has been an increase in voices that are trying to make “back” attractive. This means that lively discourse —even with different points of view— remains the appropriate instrument for democratic processes of development, and gute aussichten award winners who explore and illuminate aspects and facets of these highly charged topics make their own contribution to the discussion using artistic means.
